Ten days after the 17th edition of its International Jazz Festival, the largest jazz festival in Africa, which took place between the 28th and 31st of may, here's a focus on Saint-Louis, the former capital of Senegal, a city rich of prestigious history and multi-cultural tradition. After a period of economical decline, Saint-Louis-du-Sénégal (Saint-Louis of Senegal), or Ndar in wolof, became a popular tourist destination. Inscribed as a historical site on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2000, Alioune Diop hometown - the initiator of the FESMAN's first edition - offers a unique geographical situation and exceptional setting between the river Senegal and the Atlantic Ocean. Discovering its architectural heritage - especially the typical colonial era houses - and its natural environment; visitors become entranced by the charm of Saint-Louis. The city prides itself of a lively cultural life.
