Le Premier congrès international des écrivains et artistes noirs s’inscrit dans l’histoire politique et culturelle du 20e siècle comme « le premier grand rendez-vous culturel international qui pose l'affirmation des identités singulières de chaque peuple comme la condition indispensable à toute décolonisation véritable ». Aujourd’hui, 53 ans après l’organisation de ce grand événement, c’est la troisième édition du FESMAN qui porte le flambeau du continent africain.
